Sequence of Topics:
July 25: Executive Functions and Reading Comprehension: Technology to Support this Merger
Attendees will understand the term Executive Function (EF) and how it impacts a person’s ability to make sense of what is read. Technological tools, both high and low, provide scaffolding for this essential skill. Participants will learn how to match the right tool to the right student to facilitate positive student outcomes in reading comprehension.
August 1: Executive Functions and Writing: The Perfect Storm
In this session, participants will learn strategies that support students with EF struggles and which technological tools are best suited to scaffold the writing process. Participants will leave this session with ideas and strategies that can be implemented the very next day.
August 8: The Role of Executive Function in the Acquisition of Literacy (with Dee Rosenberg and Nora Schlesinger)
In this session, participants will understand how EF applies to literacy education. They will learn the three EF skills that facilitate reading and spelling as well as understand the research around this important topic. Finally, structured literacy teaching methodologies will be explored.
