Wilson Reading System® (WRS) Introductory Courses provide an overview of the Wilson Reading System Fourth Edition curriculum and serve as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification, which makes one eligible for the Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.) credential. Currently offered in a virtual instructor-led format, this course addresses: the process of identifying appropriate students; WRS principles of instruction; and an introduction to the systematic, explicit, and integrated instruction in phonology, morphology, and orthography.

The Wilson Reading System® is an intensive (Tier 3) multisensory structured language education (MSLE) program for students in grade 2 and beyond who have a language- based learning disability, such as dyslexia, or who have not internalized the sound- symbol system for reading and spelling. Based on scientific reading research and Orton-Gillingham principles, WRS is a highly structured remedial program that directly teaches the structure of the English language. (One graduate credit, optional, is available through Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg, MA.)

Fundations® Virtual Launch Workshops provide the practice and guidance needed to effectively begin teaching the Fundations curriculum for the selected workshop Level. Led by a skilled instructor, each interactive remote workshop addresses: the principles of instruction; the skills taught in the selected Fundations Level, including phonemic awareness, phonics and word study, vocabulary, high frequency words, fluency, comprehension, handwriting, spelling, and punctuation; development of the daily learning plan; and practice of lesson activity procedures.

Wilson Fundations® is a multisensory structured literacy program aligned with scientific reading research and Orton-Gillingham principles, and is designed to benefit all K-3 students, whether in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 setting. It thoroughly teaches the foundational literacy skills of the California Common Core State Standards (print concepts, phonological awareness, phonics, word recognition, and fluency). It also strongly supports reading, writing, and language standards.

Just Words® Virtual Launch Workshops provide the practice and guidance needed to effectively begin teaching the Just Words curriculum. Led by a skilled instructor, this interactive remote workshop addresses: the principles of instruction; the skills taught, including word study, vocabulary, high frequency words, spelling, and fluency; appropriate identification and grouping of students; development of the daily learning plan; and practice of lesson activities.

Just Words® is a multisensory structured literacy program providing direct and explicit teaching of “how English works“ for both decoding and spelling automaticity. It serves as an intervention (Tier 2) for students in grades 4-12 and adults with mild to moderate gaps in their decoding and spelling proficiency but do not require an intensive intervention. Aligned with scientific reading research and Orton-Gillingham principles, the curriculum offers a sophisticated study of word structure through the six syllable types in English and the most common Latin roots. Just Words is an appropriate intervention in daily small-group or small-class instruction.

The Los Angeles branch of the International Dyslexia Association is offering partial scholarships for classroom teachers. Apply for scholarship here.
