Screens vs. Paper
At the IDALA Language and Learning Conference in March, Maryanne Wolf’s keynote presentation addressed the effects of society’s transition to a media culture on our reading brains. Are children and adults losing their “deep reading” abilities? Are memory and concentration enhanced or impaired when reading digitally? We will discuss these topics and more as we take a look at Ackerman and Lauterman’s research study (2012) involving the effects of on-screen learning vs. paper text learning on comprehension scores in timed and untimed settings.
