The International Dyslexia Association, Los Angeles Branch is a non-profit organization that serves Los Angeles County, Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, and parts of Orange County. The Los Angeles County Branch is dedicated to stimulating awareness and understanding of dyslexia, to establish and promote the treatment of dyslexia and to give support to dyslexics and their families. Our purpose is accomplished through many free or low cost community programs by a group of hard working volunteers.

It is time to Examine the Research

 The Perspectives on Language and Literacy, Winter Edition 2016 highlights the current research that uses brain-based measures for providing insights into the etiology of dyslexia and the changes in the brain following intervention. Researchers have recently been able to study brainwaves in infants to determine auditory processing responses and the correlation to later linguistic skills and cognitive process of reading acquisition. We will discuss the longitudinal studies by April Benasich ("Early Screening and Intervention of Infants at High Risk for Developmental Language Disorders" on pages 24 - 29) and Molfese and colleagues ("Identifying Early Literacy Practices That Impact Brain Processing and Behavior" on pages 19 - 23).
